How to defeat the Scarab Tank
The Scarab Tank is a really strong force, if you have it on your wrong side. The tank’s head is armed with an extremely strong energy beam, annihilating anything that comes in its contact. Ensure that you stay away from this; even a little touch will harm you a lot. To dodge this, you should stay beneath or at the back of the scarab tank.
There is a positive side for you too though, as in Death Star, the Scarab Tank too has a weakness, which is the control room which is situated at the rear end of the tank. This control room can be destroyed easily, but reaching it is a tricky task.
In most of the situations your ideal position should be one in which you can destroy scarab’s parts easily without getting hurt. You should aim to destroy one of Scarab Tank’s legs with a weapon like Ghost fire or a rocket i.e. a sustained weapon. With this, the Scarab tank will drop down to the ground and then you can board a dock to the back, and rush to the control room. You can also try a much easier method to beat the scarab tank. You should try and search along the wall at the base of the crane for a lift, without engaging in a fight with the scarab tank. Press the switch to go up in the lift, to the top of the crane. Now, go to the far corner and sit down. After a while the Scarab shall go past and park itself, right in front of you. When this is done, you should jump on top of the scarab. This shall save you a lot of time, efforts and ammo.
Now you will find a lot of enemies on the tank. You should try to aim for the Brutes with your rocket launcher or any other weapon which does mass damage. Then run to the back of the Scarab Tank, and enter the control room. You must break the shield by meleeing it. After that you should destroy the console (again by meleeing). Now your work is finally done. Run out of the Scarab Tank before it destroys itself.
Congratulations! You have now beaten the Scarab Tank.

I am not sure if anyone else has found this out but I found a very simple and effecient way of destroying a Scarab. All you need is either a Hornet or Scorpian Tank. Drive around the back of the Scarab in your vehicle and you will find a red flashing light (it should be in the area of the Scarab’s control room.) Simply shoot the red light two or three times and a large piece of metal in front of the control room will come off. Now if you aim right you can destroy the Scarab’s control room without leaving your vehicle. This is handy when fighting multiple Scarabs.

get a mongoose and give your marine passenger a rocket launcher. Just drive around and your marine should shoot the Scarab’s knees repeatedly. Sinse it’s your passenger with the rockets, it has infinite ammo. Then when it goes down, drive over to the base and hop in. Rip a plasma turret from its foundations and then kill the brutes. Stick the engine with a grende, shoot it a few times, then RUN.

A few I found to do it (all really cool)
1. (this only works in the Ark.) When fighting the scarab, take a brute chopper and ride it to the top of the fort-thing. There’s a quarter-pipe like thing. Boost off of that, and on to the scarab! If there’s any doubt of overshooting it, ditch the chopper early. (Note- It’s safe to assume this won’t work. Although I’ve only tried it once and succeded, the tank was really close to the fort.)
2. In the level The Covenant, stay in your hornet and shoot the control room with missiles. It takes a good shot, persistence and a little luck.
3. Sort of a mix of the two, in The Covenant, land a Banshee or a Hornet on the scarab and just go straight to the core. If you want to get the aircraft back, you gotta be fast and thinking clearly (eg. not worrying about the thing blowing up.) If you can’t find it, it probably fell so just jump, there are sometimes banshees on the ground.

This only works on The Storm, and requires a lucky jump. Get a mongoose, and time your jump off the ramp so you land in the Scarab’s control room. Frag the Brutes and Grunts, and blast the control panel. It would then be advised to run. Fast.
