When you’re in a Master Chief-less battle against increasingly difficult waves of enemies is there anyone better to have on your side than Sergeant Major Avery J. Johnson?

That’s right, the rough and tough UNSC hero Sgt. Johnson may not have fared so well in Halo 3, but Halo 3: ODST takes place before the final installment of the Halo trilogy, meaning it’s SO game on. Those eager players who pre-order ODST at select retailers will receive a token to unlock Sgt. Johnson in the game’s new Firefight mode, which plays much like the Gears of War 2 Horde mode, only with progressively activated Halo 3 skulls giving the battle a bit of extra flavor.

Named “The Rookie”, this action figure is from McFarlane’s Halo Series 6 line.

Microsoft Says Some Xbox 360 Games May Be “Fixed” For New Service, Games On Demand

Microsoft will begin offering full retail games like Assassin’s Creed and Mass Effect as downloadable games via their Xbox Live Marketplace service, Games On Demand starting this August. By using this service, the games will boot straight from your hard drive, just like normal installable games.

That sounds like a great service, but if you remember, some games don’t quite work as well from the hard drive as when playing from a DVD. Games like Halo 3 and Grand Theft Auto IV don’t perform nearly as well, because they were designed to be streamed from a DVD. Well, Microsoft may be addressing that problem when it launches Games On Demand.
